Repeat Prescriptions

For safety reasons, we do not take email or telephone requests for prescriptions, except by prior arrangement from the housebound. A repeat request slip is attached to each prescription.

Please keep this for your next order. Prescriptions will be ready in 2 working days, or can posted back if you enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

We can also accept on-line requests for repeat prescriptions through the NHS App.

Please do not let yourself run out of important regular medication.

At intervals, we will ask people on regular medication to make an appointment for a check-up.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see either a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications.

Please allow two full working days between requesting and collecting your medication.

Electronic Prescription Service

We offer the Electronic Prescription Service, which allows you to choose or "nominate" a pharmacy to get your medicines or appliances from. Your GP then sends your prescription electronically to the place you nominated. this means:

• If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription, saving time.
• You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.
• You may not have to wait as long as your repeat prescriptions could be prepared before you arrive.

• You can get all these benefits if you:

  • have a stable condition
  • don't want to go to your GP practice every time to collect your repeat prescription
  • collect your medicines from the same place most of the time
  • use a prescription collection service now.

  You will not get as many benefits, if you:

  • don't get prescriptions very often or
  • pick up your medicines from different places.

  Get the benefits of EPS

  You need to choose a place for your GP practice to electronically send your prescription to. This is called nomination. You can choose up to one of each of the following:

  • a pharmacy
  • a dispensing appliance contractor (if you use one)
  • your dispensing GP practice (if you are eligible).

  Ask someone at your GP surgery or at any pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS to add your nomination for you. You don't need a computer to use EPS.

  You can change your nomination or cancel it and get a paper prescription. If you don't want your prescription to be sent electronically just tell your GP. If you want to change or cancel your nomination speak to any pharmacist or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS, or your GP practice. Tell them before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place.

  EPS is reliable, secure and confidential. Your electronic prescription will be seen by the same people in GP practices, pharmacies and NHS prescription payment and fraud agencies that see your paper prescription now.

  Sometimes dispensers may see that you have nominated another dispenser. For example, if you forget who you have nominated and ask them to check or, if you have nominated more than one dispenser.

Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery.

Wasted medication

Please only order the drugs that you need, always check before ordering.

If you are not sure what you require or what your medicines are for always ask a Nurse, your GP or a Pharmacist.

Drug Monitoring

Patients who take drugs that require regular monitoring may be asked to provide proof that the monitoring has taken place. E.g. photocopies of blood test results or “yellow book” from anti-coagulation clinic.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
